English Conversations with Cliff LMA004, BARBIE w CLIFF #1.1

BARBIE w CLIFF #1.1

In my first conversation with Barbara, I learned first that we should definitely go with Barbara and not Barbie because Barbies don't wear Prada.

Barbara lives in Brest, in Slovenia, near Ljubljana. She moved last year into a house built in 2003. So the house is new to her, but is not a new house. She previously lived in an apartment. She was born in Ljubljana and lived there all of her life. Um, this move amounted to about 10 kilometers. She has not traveled much.

I also learned that her interest in English is primarily to expand her vocabulary in order to expand her eloquence. She's been speaking for 20 years and it definitely shows. Her mastery of the language as far as basic communication is rock solid. She doesn't use English much at work, but does use it to speak with some international personnel. For example, someone from Italy. Uh, she does watch English movies and TV, but they're all subtitled in Slovenian. And it's just so easy to slip into reading them. She's interested in Anna Wintour, because she was familiar with her from both the book and the movie, the Devil wears Prada and wants to see what she's really like.
