What is the function of the yellow (bi-colored) spheres associated with some vocabulary listings?
Just hover them in the web interface to know the details.
I think they indicate the “importance” of a word. Or maybe the frequency.

I think it’s the frequency, not sure though.
I do remember with “almost” 100 % clarity that someone from lingq staff said it is how common the word is. However since the lingq software/program (whatever you want to call it) can only detect and process what is added (saving lingqs), there might be some fluctuation between the real frequency of the word. Frequent words are of course by and large more important.
