How to cancel my membership?
I was looking on the app but I couldn't find an option to cancel the subscription as I thought the price was a bit high compared to how I use it. So I wasn't able to cancel it in time and got billed. I found a cancel option on the site, and got offered a discounted price for a few months, which I thought I'd try out, but getting billed for that month when I wanted to cancel was a bit annoying.
@stevenwilliams You will apply the discount offer successfully and during next 3 months you will be charged with 50% discount.
Yep, the discount is fine, made me change my mind to continue the subscription. But when I wanted to cancel before the renewal (and before getting the offer), I didn't see any option to cancel on the app, so got billed.
The offer you took is part of the downgrade flow, actually. In case you decline the offer, you go to the next step where subscription can be completely cancelled.
I got the offer on the desktop website. Does an option exist on the app, because I couldn't fine one and wanted to cancel earlier but didn't see an option on the app. I'm fine with the downgrade offer for now though, but getting billed the full amount when I wanted to cancel but couldn't find an option is a bit annoying..
Website subscription needs to be cancelled through the website too. You can't cancel web subscription through the app.
Hi Zoran, as stated in a post in the forum some months ago I decided not to continue with my languages learning process through lingq. It was painful for me to import content and as I guessed it would be easier to find a better alternative (wich I did but will not advertise here to not being unpolite) in the market than going through a nightmare of a process here to be able to import the stuff I wanted. Just clicked to downgrade my account to free, hope it is sufficient with that. Just give you notice in case you have to do something.
Best of lucks to all.
@ You did cancelled subscription properly, everything is fine. Good luck with your language learning!
Then why have been charged? I would like to hear an explanation (and my money back)
@isaac-clemente Sorry, I didn't realize you actually took the 3 months/50% off offer during the downgrade flow and you got charged. I refunded your payment and expired subscription.
Could you please switch my membership to free account.
Thank you in advance.
@GuillaumeR Your account is scheduled to drop to the FREE level on September 6th.
Hello, can you also cancel my premium membership?
@bluehazel Sure, I took care of it. Your account will switch to the Free level on August 30.
@zoran could you please also cancel mine? I don't see the option to stop in "change plan". please guys make such option visible
@BrunoIT I took care of it and cancelled your plan. The "Change Plan" option is on the Account Settings page.
also looking for a way out. I tried deleting everything but still getting the same message about needing to delete imported lessons. absolutly infuriating!!!!! need to cancel.
@lavautour00 Sorry to hear you had problems cancelling. I took care of it for you and your account has been downgraded to the Free level now. Your latest payment is cancelled.
thanks zoran, i appreciate the prompt response.
I was ready to subscribe and get started on beginners spanish but now I lose confidence.
You don't have to worry, if you ever need any assistance, you can always reach me on support(at)lingq.com and I'll help.
Please cancel my account! It is very suspicious and unreliable not to have an option to cancel!
@romuloofficial Option to cancel is under the "Change Plan" on the Account Settings page. Anyway, I took care of it for you and your account will drop to the FREE level after your current paid month expires.
Please help me cancel my subscription as well and I would be very pleased. It’s way to hard and I have to delete a few imports which seems to be impossible. I like LingQ but would like a break
@EmilHammarLundberg Sure, I took care of it. Your account will drop to the Free level on August 25th.
I am facing the same problem from 4 months and I am disgusted
@joyer I cancelled your subscription. In case you ever have any problem, feel free to contact us on support(at)lingq.com for assistance.
Hello, can you cancel my membership to free level?
@sindreofsti Your account is scheduled to drop to the Free level on July 8th.
Could you have cancelled my subscription, too please? I want my account to be downgraded to free.
@WojtekLis Your account has been downgraded to the FREE level now.
It is unfortunate that the option to close the account is so intricate. One needs the acumen of Sherlock, and the patience of Job, to muddle through the Byzantine labyrinth required to close the account. Even so, don't expect closure. Thank goodness, the clear path presented with PayPal for closure can be optioned; otherwise, monies could be withdrawn indefinitely, apparently. Sad.
Great question sir!
That said, what happens to your payment if you subscribed and realized several after the payment was processed that you want to cancel? Does LingQ take the money once you immediately drop to FREE so for Steve or the Admin team its free money?? Or is it like other subscription services where the next payment you automatically dropped to the FREE version after the due date & it stops charging your card???
I totally understand what you're saying interms of the wrong messaging from a business stand-point. On the other hand there's no personalization to the membership either. Its not like Steve or his team would contact us if we cancelled expressing their heart-felt disappointment that we left the platform. Its as if they don't care if we embrace it or not or reach out to see how our language learning is going. None cares about how my french learning is going, they don't care if I become fluent & use it one day. At the end of the day its about money. "sigh" its the part about business I don't understand nor like.
Essentially it seems as though they don't care if we subscribe or not. Its ironic: LingQ is about language learning to communicate and yet there's no outgoing communication or even attempt to retain veteran users of the platform.
Your feedback and response would be appreciated.
@Jared_french2018 The account drops to the FREE level AFTER your already paid period expires, not in the moment of cancellation, of course.
There is no cancel option in my account, I have been trying for months! Please help me cancel it!
@pepegaddini I cancelled your subscription and your account will drop to FREE level after your current paid month expires.
Btw, option to cancel subscription is under the "Change Plan" on the Account Settings page.
Could you also cancel my subscription, please?
@pixla You did already cancelled successfully, your account will drop to the FREE level on May 29th.
hi @zoran please cancel my subscription too. thank you in advance
@tamaramagomadova You did cancelled already, your account with switch to the Free plan on July 9th.
Please cancel my account also. There is no option for me to cancel on the account page or under the change plan section. Thank you for your help!
@Chaliapelayo No problem, I've canceled your subscription.
Btw, under the Change Plan page, there is a downgrade button below your currently active tier.
Thank you, Zoran
Could you also cancel my subscription, please?
Or else it will be automatically renewed on 13 June.
@cnaptik No problem, I took care of it.
Thank you very much, @zoran !
I would like to cancel my subscription, could you please help me to cancel it? I search it everywhere, but I didn't find the way to cancel it by myself.
@WENGCaihong No problem, I took care of it for you. Btw, the option to cancel is under the "Change Plan" on the Account Settings page.
Looks like I am not the only one having this issue. I would like to downgrade to the free app for now. I cannot afford all of my subscriptions and I have to cut some of them. Sadly, Lingq is going to have to be one of them. Once my husband finds a new job I hope to return, but for now I simply cannot afford it. How can I downgrade?
@rhia42 You are subscribed to LingQ Premium through Google Play. To cancel subscription, please login to your Google Play account and you can manage your active subscriptions from there.
Ah, got it. Thank you!
Could you have cancelled my subscription, too please? I want my account to be downgraded to free.
@julusmole Sure, done. Your account will drop to the FREE level after your current paid period expires.
I have tried to delete my account. It seems impossible. Kind request from my side to delete it. It is annoying that I have to spend my time looking for answers. You give instructions on what I need to do, but you don't explain HOW to do it. I would like to have a confirmation of the deletion on my mailbox.
@Burbonvanilla You did cancelled subscription successfully and your account is set to drop to the Free level on May 13th.
How do I cancel my membership from the next update? It does not allow me to update or cancel from the next payment date.
@ippanemail I checked your account and I can confirm that you have cancelled your subscription successfully. Your account will be downgraded to FREE level after your current paid period expires.
I'm looking to delete my account but when I click on 'change plan' next to my current tier subscription plan, it tells me that I used the mobile app to subscribe - which I didn't, and only gives me a link to the google play store/ itunes. I cannot unsubscribe using my google account or itunes because it's not connected to Lingq in any way.
Could someone please help me out here... there's no 'delete account' button like the help centre said there would be either.
@lingling2019 I checked your account and you are actually subscribed to LingQ Premium through Google Play, that's where you upgraded. Your latest charge made by Google was on February 25, 2020 and is set to renew on February 25, 2021.
To cancel subscription, please login to your Google Play account and cancel it there.
Here's how you can do that: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the quick reply.
The email linked to my account is a hotmail account. I've checked all my gmail/ google accounts and none of them have subscription info for Lingq. Maybe there's one I missed - I have a few. If it's possible can you tell me exactly what google account is linked to my lingq?
Again, I don't recall ever using google to subscribe - I did it through the website on my desktop using my hotmail.
You started your LingQ Premium subscription in February 2019, by upgrading your account through Android app. Your LingQ account is created with hotmail address, but that doesn't prevent upgrading through Android app and Google.
Anyway, I was able to locate your account on Google Play and I have just cancelled your subscription manually. Your account will drop to Free level after your current paid month expires.
Dear , I'm also trying to cancel my membership. It says I need to manually delete all imported lessons in order to be able to do that. I have more than 400 hundred lessons and it would take forever. Would it be possible for the staff to do that automatically? Thanks in advance.
All the best!
@Eleirbag All good, I checked your account and I can confirm you did canceled your subscription successfully. Your account will downgrade after your current paid month expires.
I went to change my account to free over Christmas. I went to the account section and it said 'changing to Free on January 18, 2021'. I therefore assumed that I didn't need to do anything and it would end on its own. I was therefore shocked when I received a bill today charging me for another month. It now gives the same message, but the date has been changed to the 18th February. Obviously not trusting this, I have tried to find a 'delete account' button. But where is it? How do I end my account?
I came to this website as I needed to improve my French and it has been good. But I live in France now and don't need it anymore. I am hugely disappointed that trying to cancel the account is like dealing with a scam website. While using it I suggested it to friends, but I'll warn them all now not to upgrade.
Please can you tell me if my account is cancelled and if it will actually go to free next month. I have already deleted all my data so that shouldn't be a problem.
@acrouch I checked your account and I can confirm that you have cancelled your subscription successfully. Your account will be downgraded to FREE level after your current paid month expire.
Thank you for your quick response. However I still don't know how I came to pay for January when it said that it would become free in January when I looked over Christmas?
You really need to make that page clearer, with a 'delete account' or 'downgrade to free' button. In every other way, I'm a big fan of Lingq. It's a shame it had to end like this.
Actually during the downgrade flow you accepted 50% discount/3 month special offer. You were charged with discounted pricing and after that promo expired, you were switched back to regular pricing.
Well before that promo expired (over Christmas) I checked the subscription it as I hadn't been using it for a while and precisely didn't want to continue paying after my 3 month special offer ended.
I looked for a 'cancel subscription' button, but couldn't find one (I ask again, why don't you have one?). However, as it said 'changing to Free on January 18, 2021' I assumed that it wouldn't renew automatically.
There is a "Change Plan" option on the Account Settings page, where you can downgrade account to FREE level.
I have literally searched the words (with ctrl+f) 'downgrade' and 'free' on the 'Change Plan' page. This brought up nothing. I feel not only for me, but for the many others who have commented/looked on this page, posting a screen shot of where this button is on the 'Change Plan' page would be useful.
Cause all I see is options on how many months I would like to pay for!
@ Under your active tier on the Change Plan page there is a "Downgrade to Free" button, and "Change Tier" under other available plans. Since your subscription is already cancelled now, you don't see option to downgrade and you can only upgrade back.
I can't downgrade my account since I have undelelted imported lessons. How do I downgrade even if my imports are deleted. Actually, I don't care for imports, JUST HOW DO I DOWNGRADE?
@danees6 I checked your account and I can confirm that you have cancelled your subscription successfully today. Your account will be downgraded to FREE level after your current paid month expire.
Could I downgrade my account to free? I also really like the service but want to take a break for a few months. Didn’t see anything anywhere to downgrade it.
@hellopoodle Sure, done. I replied on your email and confirmed it earlier today. Cheers!
Hello @Zoran, i will like to downgrade too please. Unfotunately, i was jsut charged for another one year today. I wrote your support team already. I will like to cancel and get refund please. Kindly help out
@otomisin It's taken care of. I replied on your email.
That you have to go through and manually delete all your private lessons in all languages is extremely annoying. Could my account please be downgraded to free also. It's going to take me ages to manually remove all my private lessons.
@davidrobinson Your account is set to downgrade to FREE on September 10.
On the subscriptions page, under your subscription level there is a black "Dowgrade to Free" button where you can cancel your subscription:
Like it's been already brought up by other LingQers, every time I get to the final page (delete data) the system takes me back to the settings page. Could you do it manually please? ...
Ah, that's because you have more Private lessons than allowed for Free accounts. You need to have 5 or less maximum before you can downgrade. We are going to add popup notification for this, to make it clear.
I canceled your subscription for you and your account will drop to Free level after your current paid month expire.
No, this happens to me ive deleted all data and linq keeps reloading without cancelling
@Hoper I checked your account and I can confirm that you have cancelled your subscription successfully. Your account will drop to Free level after your current paid month expire.
I was trying to downgrade and the site was kinda bugged these previous week.
Then i hope it's finally done :)
Though as we say in Spain "Me dejo un buen sabor de boca" That could be translated as It was nice for me (i found good, the app).
PS I appreciate you for answering that fast :)
I've also tried to cancel my subscription on several occasions and I haven't been able to, or at least I haven't received an email telling me if I have succeeded in cancelling it or not. Should it be that way? If you were to check if I have, in fact, desuscribed I would be very grateful, thank you.
@Juan_10 Checked your account and you did cancelled it successfully. Your account will drop to FREE level on September 5th.
Hi Zoran, I just signed up for a one year plan and don't want to miss cancelling it before the year runs out. So naturally I want to cancel it now, as I know I will forget to do so in year before it runs out. Thanks to this post I was able to to finally find where to cancel my plan. (Why is this button hidden?) But it doesn't let me cancel, because I still have lessons or something. I'm a little confused as I didn't know cancelling a plan also entailed individually going through all kinds of lessons and what not beforehand. But of course I am not going to want to delete them now one year early. What to do? Should I write an email to make sure my plan is cancelled before it renews? There must be a customer-friendly solution for this right?
@lissis I took care of it. You won't be charged after your current paid period expire.
Thank you for helping so quickly!
Hey Zoran, i am in the same boat, i took the 2 year option but also dont want to miss cancelling after that period. Could you cancel my plan, please? I didnt find the option on the website! Thanks!
@sdefyo Sure, I took care of it.
