A lot of language study takes place in schools. In the English language school system in Canada, very few school children outside of French immersion learn to speak French despite years of classroom instruction and testing. Why is this?
I agree too many teachers focus on what they want students to learn and not what the students need to learn. There are parts of speech an grammar that I must teach must once my students move along the class starts to choose the books and content. Almost three years later with the same group of students they are at a higher reading level than the regular non ELL students. Reading can and will propel learning only if learns are interested in the topic. Great video and thank you for sharing!
