Write down what you hear

Write down what you hear.
Write down what you heard.

Q: Which one is correct? Or they are both okay, but have different meanings?
Thank you!

I’m not an English teacher but I am a native English speaker

Both are fine, just depends when you use them.

EX: Teacher tells students BEFORE a test - “Write down what you hear”

Teacher tells students AFTER a test - “Write down what you’ve heard”
