Be careful with that umbrella or you’ll poke someone in the eye.

Question: Is that okay to just say “poke someone’s eye” instead of “poke someone in the eye”?

You could say “poke someone’s eye”, but it does not sound natural. “Poke someone in the eye” sounds more natural, and the most natural-sounding is “poke someone’s eye out”.

I agree with jostroot. I would either say ‘you’ll poke someone in the eye’ or ‘you’ll poke someone’s eye out.’
