He’s put on weight since he gave up smoking.

I know the opposite of gain weight is lose weight.
I also know the opposite of “put on the coat” is “take off the coat”.

Then how about “put on” weight here? Do you have any phrasal verbs that is the opposite of “put on weight”?

Well, there’s the expression ‘to take off a few pounds.’

He has taken off a few pounds since he started kickboxing.
