If it’s like in French, it’s used to refer to a family with a lot of kids.

Thanks for the response.

I did a search for the word and all the results on the pages I checked were in Catalan. Could it be that it’s not actually used in Spanish and this is just Catalan-influenced Spanish?

Interesting. It is from a user created lesson for beginners called “La Familia”. It is tagged Spanish, Beginner 1. His user name is alsuvi, and he is a native speaker from Spain. That would make sense then, I guess. Thank you so much for the follow up.

I came across the word “numeroso” again yesterday (I knew it existed, but didn’t think of it when reading this thread) and sure enough, “familia numerosa” is used in Spanish: Familia numerosa - Wikipedia, la enciclopedia libre
So I guess he really is bilingual in Catalan and Spanish or something like that and the Catalan influenced his Spanish.

I’'ll probably remember this word, even though it seems to be pretty obscure. I do find that type of thing interesting. Thanks again.

I’m thinking it’s either a typo and should be “numerosa” or it’s just wrong and the author put in the Catalan word.
