Zeit and mal???
“Zeit” means “time”.
“mal” can be the short form of “einmal” and means “once”.
(If we ask someone to do something, we also use “mal” sometimes, but we don’t think about it as “do it once”. But that’s what we literally say.)
A second meaning of “mal” is as a multiplication sign. 4x4=16. The x is pronounced “mal”. The most common translation is “times”.
