Hello, everyone! I’m having trouble to understand why is “an diesem” in the sentence below. For me, it’d make sense if it was “Tag” instead of “Tage”. But I doubled check the physical book from where I extracted this from from the digital version, and both are typed in the same way. Can someone cast some light on?
“Möge der Herr des Lichts Euch an diesem glücklichen Tage mit Segnungen überhäufen”
I am not a native German speaker but I guess it is dative. As I know old form of dative had -e on the end of the words. The well known example is “nach Hause”, where “nach” always needs dative.
Das ist eine alte Form, die Sie im Bibel, in den Märchen und in alten Werken der schönen Literatur treffen können.
Aber manchmal sagt man auch heute diese alte Form von Dativ, zum Beispiel: im Jahre, auf dem Felde usw.
