Entgegen - contrary
duft - smell…

Give the whole sentence - in this case it’s better to understand what you mean.

I am a native speaker and I have never heard nor used that word. But I can understand the meaning. The basic form of the word should be “entgegenduften”. The “zu” is part of a grammar structure and not of the basic verb form.

“entgegen” means into your some else’s direction.
For example, if you are about to meet a friend and instead of waiting until he arrives at your location, you decide to walk into his direction. You could then tell him: “Ich komme dir entgegen.” So you would meet somewhere in the middle.

“Duft” is not smell! Smell is neutral and would be translated as “Geruch”. “Duft” means a good(!) smell, like perfume, flowers and so on.

So imagine you are going into the direction of a restaurant or a bakery and the good smell of food comes into your direction through the air. That should be the meaning.
