I think the sentence should say “es ist nicht weit”

Question: Ist der Laden weit von hier?
Answer: Er ist nicht weit. /Es ist nicht weit.

Actually both answers are possible:

  1. If you say “Es ist nicht weit.” it is a very general statement.
  2. But the person who answers the question is referring to the shop. The gender of the word shop “der Laden” is male in German. Therefore you can use “er” to replace “der Laden” in the next sentence:
    Der Laden ist nicht weit. → Er ist nicht weit.
