how to type the fourth letter of this word?

You need to switch your keyboard language to German using your operating system. If you can not do that, you can replace it with “ss”. That’s kind of excepted, but not completely correct.

On a computer keyboard with a 10 key pad to the side; the ascii code is 225. Pres and hold the “alt” key. Then type “225” on the numerical pad. Then release the “alt” key. Look up “ascii code” online and you can see the code how to type “ä, ,ë, ï, ü” From a mobile phone. Press and hold the"'s, a, e, i, o, u" keys.

I have a laptop with american set of keys but I used to type with German keyboard layout because all my computers have this.
The american one has one less key. That’s why I have problems typing the symbols “<” and “>”. Does anybody have a hint how to compensate the absent key? The laptop does not have a numerical pad.

Your best bet would be to install the qwerzy keyboard then for German, because the y ans z are also not in the same place along with the additional keys you need. and a few other keys i can’t remember. Of course you will have memorized that keyboard so don’t look at the keyboard when typing in German just let your fingers remember where the keys are. You can pull up an online keyboard to look at if you need. Then to swtich between kezboards just hold your windows key and hit the spacebar and it will swtich back. Hope this helps.

I need Russian and German layouts. It is not so useful to have more than 2 layouts at the same time.
I don’t look at the keys while typing. For example, my keyboard does not have Russian letters. But as a matter of fact the German keyboards have 1 more keys than American ones. This key has the symbols which are important for HTML, XML and other markup languages.

Oh sure, I run Spanish, English, German and Japanese all at the same time. I just hold the window’s key and tap the space bar till I get to the one I need. It only takes a couple of seconds to switch.
