What’s the meaning of -gewag- ?
Not always easy to translate into English, but gewag maken (van iets) = (ver)melden, to make mention (of something). ‘Gewag’ essentially means ‘voice’ (and that is the etymology of the word).
Mensen die in hun bio uitgebreid gewag maken van liefde voor hun partner hebben iets te verbergen voor hun partner. People who go to great lengths to voice their love for their partner in their bio have something to hide from their partner.
Ik wil van mijn overtuiging gewag maken dat, voor wat betreft de beoordeling van het democratisch karakter van een samenleving, de status van de vrouw in die samenleving de beste index is. I want to voice my conviction that, as far as assessing the democratic character of a society is concerned, the status of women in that society is the best index.
Er zijn er die voor minder van een complot gewag maken. There are those who would say it’s a conspiracy for a lot less.
