Is “dat” the object of “dacht”?

dat is the beginning of the subordinate clause. in a subordinate clause, the verbs go to the end. unlike English, where you can leave that out, you can’t leave dat out in Dutch.
ik dacht = I thought (main clause)
het was van jou = it was yours (main clause)
dat het van jou was = that it was yours (subordinate clause)
ik dacht dat het van jou was = I thought it was yours
