How to automatically add audio when importing an article (text2speech)?

When importing a (text only) article, I’d like to get a corresponding audio. Shouldn’t LingQ be able to automatically convert the text into speech via text2speech and to add the audio file to the lesson? Currently, this does not work for me - the symbol for replaying remains a circle (empty audio file). Neither for importing stuff from LingQ media center nor from online newspapers. How did you solve this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

LingQ does not create an audio file. Its computer creates text to speech “on the fly”.

In order to have an audio file, it needs to be imported from an audio file like an MP3.

Well, then, in your case, you have to study it in a sentence mode. For example, I import articles (no audio) online in the German language(my target language) and listen to the sentences in the sentence mode. That’s how I deal with text-only articles.

You can do sentence mode as the others suggest as that will give the text to speech. If you don’t have a corresponding audio you can upload and want something that will play the entire text you can try this website: https://ttsmp3.com/

I’ve used it on occasion for German. One of the voices is fairly pleasant. I see they have 4 different voices for Polish you might try. There is a limitation per day on the amount of words you can have it do…but there are options to pay for the day or year if you would want to do more with it.

Eric is right.

  1. Just copy your text into one of the free “text to speech” online conversion tools (like https://freetts.com/, etc.).
  2. Choose your target language (here: Polish)
  3. Convert the text to an mp3 file
  4. Download the mp3 file
  5. Import the text of the original website into LingQ
  6. Open the lesson text
  7. Edit the lesson
  8. Add the audio file to your lesson

Steps 1-7 worked like a charm.
Unfortunately, step 8 produced a “fakepath error” when I tried to upload the audio file.
It seems that LingQ is still working with old JavaScript code that shouldn’t be used anymore.
If you get this error as I did, we’ll have to ask Zoran / LingQ support if they can fix it.

Edit:
As Eric just mentioned in another thread regarding the “fakepath error”, the audio file is uploaded correctly when you press the “Save” or “Save and Open” button.

Thanks a lot for your help to all of you! Just tested the two speech2text converters mentioned by ericb100 and PeterBormann. And finally I was able to add the audio file to the lesson. Great!
