What's Your Favorite and Why?

I know this is sort of a silly question, all language are interesting and enjoyable in their own ways, but I feel most people tend to natural been drawn towards some languages over others.

So I’m just curious, what’s your favorite language, studied or not, and why?

It would have to be between German and French. I like the sound and cachet of French and German is a relative of my native language Swedish. While I haven’t studied Japanese it would be a contender due to me liking Japanese culture.

Swedish, cause I like the sound and flow of it. Sort of musical, happy sounding and you can really make it flow, similar to French, where some other languages feel more punctuated in their rhythm.

Each language I’ve studied has something about it drawing me towards it. I can’t comment on languages I haven’t studied at least a little though.

Irish and Icelandic I’ve been drawn to since I was a little kid, so they’re probably my favorites overall. Irish because that’s largest part of my DNA and family history. Icelandic because I’ve been fascinated by it ever since I read “Journey to the Center of the Earth” way back in elementary school (I’m in my late 30s now).

French and Italian would be favorites overall otherwise. The culture those languages embody, the flow of the words, everything sounds better in those languages, even the mundane and profane.

Purely in terms of sonics, I think Finnish would be my favorite. French, Italian, and even Ukrainian (sounds like Italian and Russian mixed in my mind) are runner’s up.

In terms of speaking the words, then that would be Swahlii, Chinese, and Vietnamese. In Swahili every word you speak just feels fun coming out of your mouth. Chinese doesn’t sound nice to me, but producing the tones is. Same goes for Vietnamese.

Looking at the written language, then Georgian is probably my favorite. It reminds me of something out of Tolkien. Also, Arabic is written like winding rivers over desert sand. Like everything written in it is a profound mystery, even though I have a limited ability to read ordinary things in it. Japanese is like a harmonious hodgepodge of craziness that’s both loud and soft at once.

I have always wanted to learn Spanish, as I think it’s the most beautiful language.

I think that Swedish is the prettiest language I’ve ever encountered. I’ve completely fell in love with it. It’s very melodic, people seem to sing when they speak and it has a happy feeling to it. I am very surprised that I hadn’t heard it before! I’m am completely fascinated. Not to mention that I love snow, cold weathers and nature in particular.

Hi Matthew! I agree with you: all languages are fascinating. But I have a significant interest in a language different from the Latin language with Portuguese and Spanish. I speak Portuguese, ok! In order of interest: Chinese, Arabic, and Swedish. I would have time to study languages just! My dream!

I tend to get fascinated with languages or accents that I either beautiful or ugly, even more with the ones I find sound ugly or ridiculous. I really enjoy trying to replicate the accents, but that´s a weird quirk of mine.

I definitely agree, I feel the same way about Finnish

Music!
