Italian film is most famous for its romances and comedies

Italian film is most famous for its romances and comedies.

Question: Should I put “the” in front of “most famous…”?

Thank you!!!

No. You are not comparing it to others; you are not saying it’s the most famous one of many. Here “most” means “predominately”: Italian film is predominately famous for its romances and comedies. Italian film is largely famous for its romances and comedies. Italian film is most well known for its romances and comedies. Italian film is most famous for its romances and comedies.

Thank you, khardy.

How about “Italian film is very famous for its romances and comedies”?

That is grammatically correct and natural sounding. But it is not the same as “… most famous…”. The original wording says that comedies and romances are the main thing that Italian cinema is known for, which your sentence immediately above does not say.

Are you referring to a specific film or Italian films in general. If the latter, I think you should say “Italian cinema …”
