With roughly 1.4 billion Chinese people throughout the world, learning some Chinese New Year greetings can help you participate in some of the festivities, and even understand more about the history and traditions behind this festive time of year. To help you wish your friends and family health, wealth, and good fortune, we\u2019ve broken down different greetings you can use on Chinese New Year.<\/p>\n<h2>The Most Common Chinese New Year Greetings<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-176597112 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Untitled-design-80-1.png\" alt=\"Chinese New Year Greetings\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Untitled-design-80-1.png 700w, https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Untitled-design-80-1-300x129.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Untitled-design-80-1-600x257.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><br \/>\nAs with any new year celebration, one of the most common greetings you will use is \u201cHappy New Year!\u201d To wish someone \u201cHappy New Year\u201d in Chinese, you would say \u201c\u65b0\u5e74\u5feb\u6a02 (x\u012bn ni\u00e1n ku\u00e0i l\u00e8).\u201d This literally translates to \u201cnew year happy.\u201d You can also say \u201c\u65b0\u5e74\u597d (x\u012bn ni\u00e1n h\u01ceo),\u201d which directly translates to \u201cnew year good,\u201d and is how you would say to someone \u201cHave a good new year\u201d or is another way to greet someone with \u201cHappy New Year.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>How to Wish Someone Well<\/h2>\n<p>To begin any well-wishes you will need to begin your greeting with \u201c\u795d\u4f60 (zh\u00f9 n\u01d0).\u201d More formally or to an elder you would use \u795d\u60a8 (zhu n\u00edn). This literally translates to \u201cwish you.\u201d So, you can say \u201cI wish you a Happy New Year,\u201d by saying \u201c\u795d\u4f60 \u65b0\u5e74\u5feb\u6a02 (zh\u00f9 n\u01d0 \u012bn ni\u00e1n ku\u00e0i l\u00e8).\u201d You can add these two words to any greeting including the ones we will list below.<\/p>\n<h2>Wishing Someone Wealth and Prosperity<\/h2>\n<p>It is common in Chinese culture to wish someone wealth. Most likely you have heard people say \u606d\u79a7\u767c\u8ca1 (g\u014dng x\u01d0 f\u0101 c\u00e1i). It is often used as a greeting on Chinese New Year. This greeting translates to wishing someone prosperity in the new year. \u606d(g\u014dng) means \u201crespectfully\u201d while \u79a7 (x\u01d0) means joy. Together it is a way to say congratulations or respectfully wishing one joy. \u767c\u8ca1 (f\u0101 c\u00e1i) means to become rich.
