The Most Useful Portuguese Words<\/strong><\/h2>\n

AMIGO<\/b> – friend<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since Portuguese speakers are so amicable, of course this should be the first word on the list! Just remember that Portuguese differentiate genders, so use AMIGA for women, ok?<\/span><\/p>\n

AMOR<\/b> – love<\/span><\/h3>\n

\nThis one is definitely universal! The cool thing is that you can use AMOR to describe the feeling of love but also as a name for your partner, friends or your kids. It\u2019s kind of like <\/span>honey<\/span><\/i> in English \u4e00 it suits everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n

DIA<\/b> – day<\/span><\/h3>\n

One day at a time! It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re making an appointment, filling a form, talking about the weather or telling the story of your life, we refer to dates all the time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LEGAL<\/b> – cool, nice<\/span><\/h3>\n

Do you want to say that someone is a nice person? Did you like your sister\u2019s new shirt? Do you want to confirm you\u2019ll go out with a friend tonight? Would you like to tell your boss you understood what he said? Use LEGAL for all of these situations and you\u2019re ready to go!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Learn<\/a><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

PALAVRA<\/b> – word<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since we\u2019re talking about words, it\u2019s only fair that we include the word that means <\/span>word<\/span><\/i> in Portuguese!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

COISA<\/b> – thing<\/span><\/h3>\n

You know when you want to refer to something but you don\u2019t know or you don\u2019t remember the name of it? In these awkward situations, you can always use the \u201cwildcard\u201d word COISA. Also, when you\u2019re surprised by something you\u2019ve heard, you can express that by saying QUE COISA!<\/span><\/p>\n

OBRIGADO<\/b> – thank you<\/span><\/h3>\n

Being polite is very important, specially when you want to make a new AMIGO! So, remember to say OBRIGADO if you\u2019re a man or OBRIGADA if you\u2019re a woman to thank other people for what they\u2019ve done for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

CASA<\/b> – house, home<\/span>
\n\"\"
\nThere\u2019s no place like home! You can use the word CASA to refer to the physical place you live in but also to talk about the people who live there or about that safe feeling of being home.<\/span><\/p>\n

O QUE<\/b> – what<\/span><\/h3>\n

Did you not understand what someone said to you? Or would you like to ask a question about something? Use O QUE and you\u2019re all set.<\/span><\/p>\n

VOC\u00ca <\/b>– you<\/span><\/h3>\n

No one likes to hang out with people who only talk about themselves! So if you want to make new friends, talk about them using the pronoun VOC\u00ca. Just remember that if you\u2019re talking with or about two or more people, you have to use the plural form VOC\u00caS.<\/span><\/p>\n

BOM<\/b> – good, well<\/span><\/h3>\n

If you want to say that someone or something is <\/span>good<\/span><\/i>, or that someone did a <\/span>good<\/span><\/i> job, or even if you want to start a sentence with the word <\/span>well<\/span><\/i> to think about what to say next, all this can be done in Portuguese just by using the word BOM.<\/span><\/p>\n
