The French equivalent of the word gentleman, <\/span>monsieur<\/i><\/b>, is a masculine noun and can be used as a term of respect when speaking to a male of practically any age. <\/span>

The term <\/span>madame<\/i><\/b> is a feminine noun and is translated from the English word for madam or Mrs. It is typically used to refer to a married woman or just as a term of respect when speaking to a woman. <\/span>
