In fact, for me, it helps me to lay the strong foundation upon which I\u2019ll build more advanced skills. In the case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/en\/learn-japanese-online\/\">learning Japanese<\/a> kanji, this is no exception. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flashcards are great, flash quizzes (if you\u2019re in a class) keep you sharp, and drills are helpful. By practicing writing down each kanji, no matter how much of a pain it can be, does wonders for your progress.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, at some point, you\u2019ll need to move on to the practical, everyday use of kanji (reading and writing), and rote memorization will only get you so far. You\u2019ll need to understand how the meaning and pronunciation of certain kanji can change, depending on the context surrounding it. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong>So! What to do? Well, a great way to start learning kanji is to dive into some Japanese content and start reading! And while some people choose to learn as much as the kanji as they possibly can, you don&#8217;t have to. By reading Japanese, you&#8217;ll start to get an idea of which kanji appears frequently and which ones don&#8217;t. The ones that do are ones you should be more concerned about. Anyways, let\u2019s address the basic level, for now. After all, big things have small beginnings. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below is a kanji chart, as well as some contexts you may find some of those kanji pop up in. Specifically, this is 1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grade <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">jouyou kanji <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(everyday <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kanji<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that students are required to learn),<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which are officially announced by the Japanese Ministry of Education.<\/span><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-176591356 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/image1.gif\" alt=\"How to Learn Kanji in Context\" width=\"598\" height=\"511\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><a that has many different meanings, depending on the context. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below are a few different ways it can be used.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u305d\u3089 \/ sora: sky<\/span><br \/>\n<b>\u9752\u7a7a<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u3068\u3066\u3082\u3044\u308c\u3044\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/span><br \/>\n<b><i>Aozora<\/i><\/b><b>,<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> totemo kirei desu.<\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe blue sky is so beautiful.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u304f\u3046\/kuu: empty air<\/span><br \/>\n<b>\u7a7a\u6c17\u611f<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u60aa\u3044\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/span><br \/>\n<b><i>Kuukikan<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, warui desu.<\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe vibe is bad.\u201d <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u3042\u304f\/aku: open<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u7bb1\u304c<\/span><b>\u7a7a\u3044\u3066\u307e\u3059<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hako ga <\/span><\/i><b><i>aitemasu<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u305b\u3044sei: life, living<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u4eba\u751f\u3092\u697d\u3057\u307f\u306a\u3055\u3044\u3002<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jinsei wo tanoshiminasai.<\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEnjoy your life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u3055\u304d saki: previous, prior, some time ago<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u5148\u3001\u3042\u308a\u304c\u3068\u3046\u3002<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saki, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arigatou.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank you for what you did (back there, a previous time).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u3055\u304d saki: front; ahead<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u3053\u3053\u304b\u3089\u5148\u306b\u306f\u884c\u3051\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Koko kara saki ni wa ikemasen.<\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can\u2019t go any farther from here. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u305b\u3093sen:\u3000former, previous (similar to \u201csaki\u201d, but a different pronunciation)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u5148\u6708\u3001\u30df\u30b7\u30ac\u30f3\u5dde\u306b\u5e30\u3063\u305f\u3002<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: If you really want to stay motivated, get a hold of content that you enjoy. Whether it\u2019s sports movies, or anime, as long as it\u2019s interesting, you\u2019ll keep reading.
