Before, I\u2019d be using several apps to keep track of the vocabulary I learned from watching anime. To be honest, I wasn\u2019t a big fan of going back and forth between apps on my phone, computer, and using 3rd party translations (Google) to keep track of new words.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thankfully, there\u2019s LingQ.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ever since I\u2019ve been using the app, I\u2019ve found my Japanese studies to be better organized and most importantly, more exciting. Using Lingq, I can import any content I find interesting (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Devilman<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, anyone?) and turn it into a lesson.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, I\u2019ll show you why LingQ is a great tool to help you learn Japanese from the anime you love.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s begin.<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/en\/learn-japanese-online\/?utm_source=LingQ Blog&amp;utm_medium=banner&amp;utm_campaign=blogpost&amp;utm_content=HowtoUseAnimeSubtitlestoHelpImproveYourJapanese\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-176599733 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/lingq-girl.png\" alt=\"Learn japanese online at LingQ\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/lingq-girl.png 700w, https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/lingq-girl-300x129.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lingq.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/lingq-girl-600x257.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studying with Anime Subtitles (The Old Way)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I began my Japanese studies, I read a few posts that suggested which apps to use but I found these methods to be a bit tedious and time consuming.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tofugu\u2019s article, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tofugu.com\/japanese\/studying-with-japanese-drama\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studying With Japanese Drama<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, provides a good outline on how to study with anime and Japanese dramas. Yet, the apps recommended didn\u2019t benefit me as much as I would have liked. Also going back and forth between two apps is a bit of a time waster.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are other methods that discuss ways to use anime subtitles for studying but I wasn\u2019t able to find anything that I was happy with.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<b>I mean, wouldn\u2019t it be nice to have the transcript, audio, translations (including furigana), and flashcards in one app?<\/b><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, guess what.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LingQ can do all this and much more. If not, it&#8217;s an amazing website for Japanese learners and anime lovers. What&#8217;s great about sentence mode is that if you click the speaker icon, LingQ will pull the audio relating to that sentence. This is super helpful instead of having to scroll through the audio.<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned before, this is the easiest way to import anime into LingQ. You can highlight new words and LingQ will pull definitions 3rd party translations and provide their accompanying audio. If you have Netflix, you can extract subtitles yourself, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nihongonobaka.com\/extracting-subtitles-from-netflix\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as outlined in this post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now I know this is a bit tricky but luckily there are some amazing people out there who\u2019ve done the work for you. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/12NzyFnxZcEI9Jgjn_08AXQdfVqVOg8xh\"><b>Here are a bunch of Japanese anime subtitles<\/b><\/a><b> ready for you to download.<\/b><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*(If you cannot find the anime you\u2019re interested in, you\u2019ll need to brush up your googling skills and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/search?q=anime+srt+files&amp;rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA809CA809&amp;oq=anime+srt+files&amp;aqs=chrome.0.0l2.5424j0j7&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">start searching<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.)<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a look at some of the extracted subtitles from the Google Drive, you\u2019ll notice that they are in .srt format. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fudge<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a .srt file, you ask? Don\u2019t worry about that, all you\u2019ll need to do is turn them into a .txt file which is easy. Go <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/subtitletools.com\/convert-subtitles-to-plain-text-online\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and you\u2019ll be able to convert your .srt files into text.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to go the extra mile and create the ultimate LingQ lesson, you can upload the audio from your anime (must be .mp3). Assuming you own the content, you can also google how to extract audio from your video file. <\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protip: If you don\u2019t know where to find something, use Google.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you have your .txt and .mp3 files, just follow the steps I mentioned earlier and import your content into LingQ.
