\nWhile it is not certain as to when exactly the first Chinese joke was invented, it is certain that Chinese people are just about as funny as everybody else on this planet. Just in a slightly different way… \u00a0<\/span>
\n\"Two<\/p>\n

Chinese Joke Characteristics<\/b> \u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Because Chinese humor is based mainly around linguistic components (such as puns and double entendres) as opposed to slapstick and satirical components as commonly seen in British and American comedies, you may get the impression that Chinese people do not have a sense of humor. <\/span>
\nHowever, if you listen carefully to the sounds of these jokes and consider their meanings, you will find that Chinese people actually do. In fact, if done right, learning Chinese jokes can also give you an excuse as to why you forgot to finish your homework last night. <\/span>
\n\u6211\u5f00\u73a9\u7b11\u5427\uff01\u6211\u5f00\u73a9\u7b11\u5427, \u8001\u5e08\uff01I\u2019m kidding! I\u2019m kidding, <\/span>l\u01ceosh\u012b<\/span><\/i> !<\/span>
\nAnyway, <\/span>t\u00f3ngxu\u00e9men<\/span><\/i>, without further ado, here are two Chinese joke examples in order to help YOU master the art of smiling talk. Are you ready?<\/span><\/p>\n

The ABC or D Joke \u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

\nQ: Who is relatively taller? A or C?<\/span>

\n<\/span>In this example, A\u6bd4C\u4f4e has two meanings. On the one hand, it literally translates to \u201cA is lower than C.\u201d However, when pronounced in Mandarin Chinese, the last sentence sounds like the letters, ABCD. In other words, A\u6bd4C\u4f4e is both a double entendre and a pun because it can either mean \u201cA is lower than C\u201d or \u201cABCD.\u201d ABCD! Get it? <\/span>

The Deer Telephone Number Book Joke<\/b><\/h2>\n

\n<\/span>Little Bear asks, \u201cWhy would he know it?\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>Little Rabbit answers: \u201cBecause he is the phone book\u201d<\/span>

\n<\/span>A little bit more challenging compared to the last joke, I know. But basically, the joke behind this joke is that since the final character in the original Chinese phrase for \u201cphone book\u201d(\u901a\u8baf\u5f55, , t\u014dng x\u00f9n l\u00f9) , \u5f55, sounds similar to the word, \u9e7f, which means \u201cdeer\u201d in Chinese, \u00a0it would make sense as to why a deer would be a phone book. After all, \u9e7f(l\u00f9) and \u5f55(l\u00f9) are homophones. So \u9e7f(l\u00f9) equals \u5f55(l\u00f9)! Get it\uff1f<\/span>
