In fact, if done right, learning Chinese jokes can also give you an excuse as to why you forgot to finish your homework last night. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u6211\u5f00\u73a9\u7b11\u5427\uff01\u6211\u5f00\u73a9\u7b11\u5427, \u8001\u5e08\uff01I\u2019m kidding! A or C?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: C because, A is lower than C.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this example, A\u6bd4C\u4f4e has two meanings. On the one hand, it literally translates to \u201cA is lower than C.\u201d However, when pronounced in Mandarin Chinese, the last sentence sounds like the letters, ABCD. In other words, A\u6bd4C\u4f4e is both a double entendre and a pun because it can either mean \u201cA is lower than C\u201d or \u201cABCD.\u201d ABCD! But basically, the joke behind this joke is that since the final character in the original Chinese phrase for \u201cphone book\u201d(\u901a\u8baf\u5f55, , t\u014dng x\u00f9n l\u00f9) , \u5f55, sounds similar to the word, \u9e7f, which means \u201cdeer\u201d in Chinese, \u00a0it would make sense as to why a deer would be a phone book. After all, \u9e7f(l\u00f9) and \u5f55(l\u00f9) are homophones. So \u9e7f(l\u00f9) equals \u5f55(l\u00f9)!
