Librivox

Tony makes some very good points about audible.com in his comment to my previous post. He also suggested to me in an email a very valuable site for free audiobooks. Librivox is a site where books that are in the public domain are recorded and provided free of charge. For instance, Anne of Green Gables is partially available there and is expected to be completed sometime in February. I see some variation in the sound quality of the different chapters as they have been recorded by different people but it may be that since these books are still “in production” the quality and sound levels have not been made uniform. There are many other books there that have been completed and we will also look to add the text for these to the system over time. We will let you know as we do so.

In the meantime you are of course welcome to get the audio for Anne of Green Gables from audible.com or from librivox.org. In the future, after Anne of Green Gables has been completed by Librivox we will start to add the completed sound files to our own library as well.
