I want to comment on the eleventh episode of “Doctor Who” I’ve just listened to on Lingq. To tell the truth I don’t intend to comment either on the eleventh episode itself, or on Doctor Who himself.
What I find more interesting is to deal briefly with the Science Fiction literature taken as a whole. In fact I’ve been reading Science Fiction novels since I was 12. Now that I’m 58, I can tell that what I am, the deeper soul that inhabits my mind, was changed forever by these readings. I think that these books, little by little, have helped me (like many others) to see beyond the so-called “things”. The Sci-Fi (as it is called among its fans) literature helps the reader to open his mind to many more possibilities than he is used to in everyday life. At the end of this true learning process, he encounters an amazing, unexpected country. The strange thing is that nobody has spoken of it before. I’m pretty convinced that some people try to keep this wonderful country almost deserted. The reason lies in the fact that living there makes men and women more and more free than anywhere else. I know very well that’s very easy for the human mind to cross the border between paranoia and normality. I mean that Science Fiction literature helps the human mind become free from so many blinkers that it ends up to seeing too much. I see, of course, the real possibility that many “conspiracy” theories could spring up on these grounds.
On the other hand, I need to point out that the difference between a conspiracy (the work of an occult cabal of wicked people) and a random series of facts lies only in a retrospective thorough test of the reality of the facts.
Let me give you an example. If some so-called “nuts” speak of the possibility that NASA never reached the Moon, all decent and wise people would think that they are odd…stupid. But, strictly speaking, it is possible that the Moon landing in 1969 was a hoax. It’s not very likely but possible. What if in the next days we got solid evidence that actually the “Moon landing” never occurred?
In other words, I think that we all should pay much more attention to our everyday life and never take the words coming from the Media as the truth.
