North Korea & English

South Korea has long been a hotbed of Asian interest in learning English, probably mostly due to the United States’ history in that country.

But what about North Korea? Could English get big in North Korea too?

The number of North Koreans who took an English accreditation course tripled over the past five years. It’s still small, but perhaps a sign of things to come – and certainly a sign of just a little more openness in this tightly controlled country.

I’m sure many of North Korea’s neighbors would appreciate a little more openness in Pyongyang!
