Advice needed for an intensive German course

Hi everyone!

I'm new here. My name's Mark and I'm going to be moving to Hamburg in Germany in July. I've been studying German for the last month or so with Pimsleur, but I don't really feel like I'm progressing with it...or maybe I am but I just don't realise it...I don't know....anyway I've been reading more and I think the problem is limited vocab and that seems to be the general consensus by reviewers of Pimsleur.

I have two months before I leave for Germany and I want to push myself to learn as much as I can before I get there, so that I can at least have the confidence to get by and do things for myself.

At the moment I'm just working part-time, so I have plenty of time on my hands to study with LingQ. Can anyone recommend a program for me to follow because when I look at all the available material it is a bit overwhelming. I've started with a Beginner 1 course, which seems right for me, but if anyone has any recommendations for material they've studied, that'd be great!

Thanks!
Mark

Hi Jolanda!

Thanks for the link. It looks like Vera's blog has all the answers to my questions!

Thanks! :)
Thank you Jolanda for recommending the information on my profile.

@JerseyMark: I'm glad that you find what you were looking for on my blog. My intention is to help German learners. That is why I wrote this blog. Unfortunately there is no easy way to let new German learners on LingQ know about it. Earlier I tried to write on the walls of all new members I could find but this turned out in a lot of work. And there is no easy way to find the new members. So I stopped doing this some weeks ago. It would be much easier if LingQ support would do this ;)
Mark, how long will you stay in Hamburg? Hamburg has lots of interesting places and views. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.

I wrote some entries of "Vera's diary for beginners" about Hamburg:

Hi Vera!
Thanks for your reply and for all the contributions you've made to this site and your blog that help people like starting out with German...it's so helpful and I really feel confident now that I'll be able to get a decent enough grip on the language by the time I set foot on German soil!

I have a new job in Hamburg that starts July 30th, so depending on how the job goes and how I settle into life in Hamburg, I could stay for 6 months or end up staying 6 years! :) I'm hoping it's the latter!

I shall enjoy looking at your pictures and studying your Hamburg lessons when I get home later...thank you for the links!

Any further information you can share about Hamburg would also be greatly appreciated! :)
