What is the visual equivalent of onomatopoeia? I found an example of it today with the word "冏" in the movie title "老媽冏很大", aka Uma Thurman's "Motherhood". The way it is titled now, it means Mom's "Jiǒng" is Very Big

Anyway, what's interesting to me is that the middle character "冏", (pronounced jiǒng) doesn't seem to have any discernible meaning anymore, but because of the way the character looks, it is used in situations where a dropped jaw emoticon might work, or perhaps an Edvard Munch painting.
