| Question: | Is this Continental or Brazilian Portuguese? |

I'm looking for European/Continental Portuguese lessons...
Thank You! and, Darn. (but thank you)
Hi Sarah,
unfortunately you'll find very little European Portuguese lessons in the LingQ library.
All tentatives to have Portuguese people join LingQ and provide lessons and tutoring have failed so far, but Steve said he'll go to Portugal again this fall and he'll hopefully have better luck.
Meanwhile, you can just import Portuguese material for your private use, like news, audiobooks and so on. I tried to find some interesting European Portuguese podcasts with text and audio but couldn't find any so far.
Good luck,
Michele

@sarahmackenzie - If you're looking for European Portuguese lessons on LingQ, be sure to visit the Library, click on Advanced Search then select European as the accent. While not all lessons have an accent attached to them, this should give you a good selection of lessons to work through. You can, of course, import lessons privately as mikebond suggested, which allows you to further integrate your learning with your activities here on LingQ :)
Well, Alex, I did this in the past and I wouldn't call what I got "a GOOD selection"! :)
Apart from part of Steve's book, there are very few European Portuguese lessons, and their quality is often not great, either... Let's hope things will change!

@mikebond - It would be great if you could also help look for more European Portuguese lessons to share in the Library. :)
Alex, don't you think I have been trying to help so far? It's not my fault if there are no copyright-free podcasts from Portugal with texts and audio...
I see, thanks for your efforts then!
I have found a few more Portuguese websites of audiobooks:
http://mhij.pt/
http://www.boca.pt/
Most of them don't have text, though. Anyway, I think you could add them to the Resources column.

I see these sites are both paid-only sites. I don't believe we've added any paid-only sites to the list of Resources as of yet, and would rather link to sites that have content available free of charge that users can import into LingQ.
Thanks all for the response! I ended up picking up a book and downloading some audio lessons from an online source but will check those other links, too, Mike... Here goes!
Ok, Alex. I still think adding links to paid-only sites are better than not adding anything, especially for a language with little available material like European Portuguese. You wouldn't be forcing anyone to buy anything...
Sarah, can you share your source with us?

By the way, Alex, I did find 101noites among the Portuguese resources. They also sell audiobooks.
I agree that we should add all resources and not only free resources. It is up to each person to decide whether they want to pay or not. We just respond to suggestions from members, and while we have only added free resources in the past, there is no reason not to add resources that require payment.
I agree, Steve.
Having said that, it would be nice if there could be some sort of indication. Perhaps the update after the upcoming one could address this. A small icon would be sufficient. A reworking of the resources areas is needed in any case. At present, there is no indication of what sort of resources one finds. Audio alone? Texts? Both?
Anyway, just some thoughts.

Hi Mike.
The book I picked up was from Berlitz.
The online audio lessons were from this site: http://mylanguages.org/portuguese_audio.php
It's not pretty, but I can listen to them on my phone while commuting so it works.
Last night I downloaded an app from Wag Mobile for the phone as well.

OK, I've now gone in and added these sites with "(Paid)" next to them. If there are other paid sites that you'd like to see in the list of resources, let us know!
I would like to help with European Portuguese, but unfortunately for you I'm from Brazil. By the way,Why many people opt to learn European Portugues? Just a curiosity. Is it that European Portuguese have more privilege? Or is it that the Brazilian or " African" Portuguese have/use too much slangs, not accurate, sounds silly. I wonder why?
@ gpnsa : "I wonder why ?"
The Brazilian version of Portuguese sounds definitely more beautiful to me.

I'm very much the same. I'm a fan of Brazilian Portuguese. Though, I prefer the Spanish of Spain over that of South America. (It's still my second favourite after Judeo-Spanish. haha)
Oh Dear, sounds nice for me to hear that there are some menbers here who likes the Brazilian Portuguese! I have very good Portuguese friends(I love to listen to them, but I think my Portuguese version is also ok to learn, to communicate)for those who "underestimate" my Brazilian Portuguese. Judeo-Spanish that is new for me Imyirtseshem!? I have to say I also prefer the Spanish of Spain(though I love to hear my South America hispanic friends)
My reason for learning European Portuguese is simply that I am European, like Europe and am more likely to use Portuguese in Portugal than in Brazil. Period.
Hi
I'd like to help provide more material in European Portuguese, but I'm not sure about copyright issues. What kind of texts can be turned into audio?
And are there any specific topics you are interested in?
On the other hand, I'm still not very familiar with the steps of including materials.
