Много vs. многие

What’s different between the two? I searched on wiktionary and different contexts and they don’t seem much different.

If I were to say “there are many words that I don’t know” would I say

“Есть много слов который я не знаю.”?

“Много” is an adverb, it’s connected with the verb: Ты знаешь сколько слов? - Много.
“Многие” is an adjective, it’s connected with a noun: Многие люди знают это (какие люди? - Многие)
‘Многие’ can be also a noun: Многие говорят это (кто? - Многие)
We use “много” more often than “многие” .

Спасибо большое. Теперь я думаю я понимаю. Однако, я должен сказать “Есть многие слов который я не знаю?”

Более натурально будет: Есть много слов, которых я не знаю.
Но можно сказать и с другим словом: Есть многие слова, которых я не знаю.

The meaning of “многие” is close to “most of” or “большинство из …”

Hi, J! =))

For you to LEGIT feel the difference, try to translate the following, “I know many words already but when I read an unknown text there are many of the words I don’t understand yet.”

This is the LEGIT difference between them…

And just disregard any notion of one being used more often than another as an irrelevant one.

Both are absolutely widely acceptable and are used equally often!
