Well, I am not studying Norwegian but Swedish, but in Swedish you have the same words, depending on the gender of the word you use minn or mitt.
Perhaps my Danish knowlwedge can help here as well. I have never learned Norvegian.
In Danish you have the pronoun “min” in the gender “utrum” (male-female).
and the prounoun “mit” in the gender “neutrum” (neuter).
I hope that this makes clear the difference.

“Mitt” = my n. , e.g “mitt hus”, “mitt eple” (my house, my apple)
“Min” = my m. (and f.), e.g. “min hest”, “min bil” (my horse, my car)
You may also see “mi” = my f., e.g “kona mi”, “kua mi” (my wife, my cow).
