I think this is nynorsk and means "laugh" but hopefully someone from Norway will confirm. Now you made me curious too.
"give up" is the expression I can make out of the Norwegian text.

I am from Norway. " Løgste" is a nynorsk word, and it meens broke or solved.
In ordinary Norwegian Løgste is Løste.
Cobraen - in this context it means "to lie". See the link above, which gives the use of that word in stories:

Løgste, drive til Løgner.



It also makes sense in the context of the story.
