Hello, can anyone explain me the owrd "off" in this

Hello, can anyone explain me the owrd “off” in this context? → … phoned the woman in question and off we all went, driving about an …

You might want to add a little more context… Anyway from what I see, he and the woman in question, right after he phones her, go driving together. Off we went, right after I called her, we went driving etc… Off we went means we went away, we left the place where we were.
Hope this helps.

Oh many thanks it was helpfully. Anyway, just in case it changes anything in the meaning, this is the full sentence.

" I was to ask out. I dutifully phoned the woman in questionand off we all went, driving about an hour from the campus intothe heart of Manhattan."

No, it does not change anything. Watch out, you have made quite a few typos in copying out the full sentence.
