when we say my mother’s brother we mean who
my mother’s brother = my uncle (on my mother’s side)
So there was once a woman who gave birth to my mother. She was my mother’s mother, otherwise known as my maternal grandmother. She also gave birth to a son. This son is my mother’s brother, otherwisde known as my uncle.
