Difference between ''did go'' and ''went''

what is the difference between these two sentences?

  1. i went there.
  2. i did go there.

ā€˜I did go thereā€™ is more emphatic. Meaning that if someone said ā€œI donā€™t think you went thereā€ you would say ā€œI did go thereā€ to emphasize that the opposite of what they said is true. Whereas ā€œI went thereā€ is not not as forceful.

Does that make sense?

thanks

thanks for your detailed information.

Nathan is quite right, I did go is the emphatic positive and so is used to answer a negative question:

I went to the park yesterday.

But didnā€™t you go to school?

Yes I did go to school! Then I went to the park after school.

giv another exampie plzzzz

I did try to do my homework, but the dog ate it.

I did try to ignore this thread, but I failed.

Hmm. Yet another interesting discussion.

I did go shopping, but I did not go to lunch.
I went shopping but I did not go to lunch.

Native speakers: Would you say these have different meanings?

One must use ā€œdidā€ with ā€œnot.ā€ You can not say ā€œI not went.ā€
Is there a name for that rule??

ā€œI went shopping but I went not to lunch.ā€

Hmm, nobody would ever say this, but is it actually wrong? I canā€™t make up my mind.

Helo.

Auxiliary verbs;

I went to a doctor yesterday. DID you?

Iā€™ll make the dinner. Will you? Thatā€™s awesome!

You wonā€™t forget, WILL YOU?

ā€œI went not to lunchā€ is correct in Elizebethan English.
