Question about Pinyin

Hey, I noticed that the Pinyin words have numbers in between like “ni3hao3”. What do the numbers mean? Thanks.

The numbers stand for the tones on the words.

First tone: ma1 or mā
Second tone: ma2 or má
Third tone: ma3 or mǎ
Fourth tone: ma4 or mà

ok now I understand thank you.

You are welcome. Good luck learning Chinese, I’m still learning, but I believe I know quite some about the materials etc out there. Also lived in China and have been working for Chinese people/company for 7 years, so if you need any help let me know, I will be around on the forums too
