Please, explane the difference

Please, explane the difference between
“I made Tom wash the dishes.” and
"I had Tom wash the dishes.”
I understand “I made Tom wash the dishes.” I am confused about "I had Tom wash the dishes.”
Thanks.

The meaning is quite similar I think. If you say “I made Tom wash the dishes”, it kind of implies that he didn’t really want to do it, but you convinced or forced him to do it anyway.
But if you say “I had Tom wash the dishes”, it implies that you paid Tom to do it or that he did it because you ordered him to do it.

Note that I’m not a native english speaker, this is just what I feel the difference is.

Thanks a lot!

Yes, “I had Tom wash the dishes” implies to me an employee-type relationship. “I had Tom wash the dishes after Linda and Frank prepared the meal.”

“I made Tom wash the dishes” implies more of a friend/family relationship. “I cooked, so I made Tom wash the dishes for me.”

But these are very very subtle differences and likely to be context and probably region-dependent.

PS I think the word you want is “explain.”
