One thing that bothers me, besides the amount of repetition is that some of the suggested phrases don't make much (if any) sense neither in German nor in English. I went up to level 8 in German, but I find I don't feel much like doing the repetitive work that is required to make progress on duolingo. It's ok in small amounts, and I'm still using it, but it's not going very fast.
