Hi everybody,

I'm new on LingQ and already have a little problem. I was going to upgrade my account to try out how to work with (more than 100) lingqs. As I have no credit card, I created an account on Paypal. But unfortunatly paying is not possible, there appears an error promt saying:

"Wir können Ihre Anfrage zurzeit leider nicht verarbeiten. Kehren Sie zu The Linguist Institute zurück, und wählen Sie eine andere Option aus."
(The request can not be executed at the moment. Go back to The Linguist Institute and choose another option.)

I tried it for several times now during the last few. Has anybody an idea if I did something wrong? That's my first time paying with Paypal, but my bank account is already verified.

Hi Kathi,

Unfortunately, PayPal seems to sometimes not allow recurring payments to be set up from German PayPal accounts. I don't know why this is but if you want, you should be able to buy a 6 or 12 month membership for a one time fee on the multi-month membership page, https://www.lingq.com/accounts/choose-products/. Sorry about that!

Kathi, wann hast Du den Account bei Paypal angelegt? Paypal überweist oft einen kleinen Betrag auf Dein Konto um es zu verifizieren und es kann dann ungefähr eine Woche dauern, bis es funktioniert. Zumindest war es bei mir so, als ich mir vor einigen Jahren einen Paypal-Account zugelegt habe. Eine andere Möglichkeit ist, dass Du Geld auf das Paypal-Konto einzahlst, damit Du dort ein Guthaben hast und dann mittels des Guthabens bezahlst.

Es kann aber auch ein Problem der "wiederkehrenden" Zahlungen sein, wie Mark erwähnt hat. Eventuell kannst Du bei Paypal anfragen aus welchem Grund das nicht möglich ist. Ich kaufe immer eine 6- oder 12-monatige Mitgliedschaft und damit liegt der Fall bei mir anders.

Was Mark geschrieben hat, trifft leider zu. Wiederkehrende Zahlungen sind in Deutschland über Paypal nur mit einer Kreditkarte möglich. Ich habe mir deshalb extra eine Prepaid-Kreditkarte zugelegt (eine normale bekomme ich leider nicht, da ich dafür zu wenig Einkünfte habe).

With my German PayPal account, I had done several recurrent payments to other companies without any problems.

Only the recurrent payment to LingQ was rejected. It seems that LingQ has a special PayPal configuration that hinders it...

thank you for your response!
6 months is a long time for me at the moment and I'm not sure if I will have the time/opportunity to go on practicing languages in two or three months at all. That's why I was going to test LingQ first for one month, and also see, if it is the right thing for me.

@Vera: Ich hab das PayPal-Konto jetzt etwa seit einer Woche. Die beiden kleinen Zahlungen sind inzwischen auch da und ich hab das Konto verifiziert. Daran lag's also nicht.
Schade, hatte mir PayPal jetzt extra dafür zugelegt, obwohl ich von dem ganzen Kreditkarten-/PayPal-/Lastschriften-Kram generell nicht so begeistert bin. Ich schätze immer noch die gute alte Rechnung und Überweisung, für einen Service wie LingQ auch gern im Voraus für den kommenden Monat. Aber da bin ich wohl ein bisschen altmodisch ;)

Ich werd's dann wohl jetzt einfach erstmal mit dem kostenlosen Account versuchen. Vielleicht gefällt mir LingQ dann ja so gut, dass ich eine 6-montige Aufstockung mache. Oder ich versuche, ein paar Punkte zu verdienen (los, schickt mir alle eure Texte *gg*) ;)

Ich bin auch kein Fan von PayPal, aber das ist die einzige von den Kosten einigermaßen vertretbare Möglichkeit um etwas in Amerika zu bezahlen. Ich habe mir übrigens ebenso wie Frank eine Prepaid-Kreditkarte zugelegt, weil leider manche Shops kein PayPal akzeptieren, sondern nur Kreditkarten. Ich habe lange überlegt, aber mit dem Prepaid konnte ich dann am besten leben.

@hape: Ich hatte dasselbe Problem auch bei allen anderen Webseiten, bei denen eine regelmäßige (i.d.R. monatliche) Zahlung erforderlich ist. Vielleicht war das bei Dir noch zu einer Zeit, zu der dieses ohne Kreditkarte noch möglich war?

@ Cathy, I'm not sure where you live but here in Canada you can buy a prepaid gift visa or master card, which I use here. If you want you could get a one month membership for $10 and if you like it then maybe try the 6 month for $55. I don't have a credit card and find the gift card very convenient for purchasing things online.
