Sono venuti a pranzo or pranzare?

Hi there,

In my Assimil Italian there’s a sentence that says: I nostri amici sono venuti a pranzo da noi.

I wonder, however, if that sentence should be: I nostri amici sono venuti a pranzare da noi. (note the pranzare)

I googled and found lots of sentences that use the infinite form after “a”…

Thanks!

The phrase is “andare/venire a pranzo / a cena da qualcuno”. Andare a pranzare is grammatically correct but it is not idiomatic.

Thanks Mike! So pranzo is used as a noun here right?
