Hi there
I wondered why in this phrase, ‘der Familie’ is not ‘den Familie’? DOes the sentence not have the family as the accusative object?
Many thanks
Glen

The case is determined here by the preposition ‘in’. In this sentence, ‘in’ is followed by the dative case. Since Familie is a singular feminine noun, the correct article is ‘der’.
Thanks Colin for explaining that, much appreciated
