Doubt about the expression:鎌倉 は、1180年 に 源 頼 朝 が 幕府 を 開いた 場所 と して 知ら れて い ます

I think part of this this sentence means “Kamakura was the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo estabilished the shogunate on year 1180”. But I don’t get very well what is the other action, after the “と” particle, that the subject Minamoto no Yoritomo have done. Is it “and made it (the shogunate) known”?

Hi
として = as
として知られています = be known as

This sentence means “Kamakura is known as the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo established the shogunnate in 1180.”

Hope this helps.
