Died in a hangover?^^

Hey there, I have a question about this phrase

"昨日 は 二日酔い で 死んで いました "

My literal translation would be “Yesterday, in-hangover died”. Does it mean “I was drunk yesterday” or is my translation incorrect?^^

I would translate it as "Yesterday I was dying with a hangover ". But let’s wait for the translation of native speakers.

In English we have a similar saying, when you want to over-exaggerate you say that you are dying from something. For example I am dying from the cold, just means that I have a bad cold, I am are not actually dying.
