Who are your favourite French singers? Looking to update my iPod with a few singers but can’t think of any French ones …
Melissa Mars, BB Brunes, and Merwan Rim are all great.
Jacques Brel (Belgian, but used to sing in French), Edith Piaf, Charlotte and Serge Gainsbourg, France Gall, Françoise Hardy (my favorite). If you like indie rock, you can check out Stereolab. Many of their songs are in French.

Celles que j’écoute parfois sont celles de France Gall, Laurent Voulzy, Patricia Kaas, Koxie, Françoise Hardy, Elsa, Jeanne Mas, Caroline Costa, etc. Je ne me rappelle plus d’autres maintenant… mais j’ai écouté enormement de chansons…

What??? Riccardo Cocciante is an Italian songwriter! 
A couple of musicals written in French don’t make him a French singer! 
Felix LeClerc. A bit old fashioned but still great.
I am old fashioned too and love Georges Brassens as well as Felix.
I often enjoy singing some compositions of : Jaques Brel (bien sûr), Francis Cabrel, George Brassens, Joe Dassin (but only the best 3 or 4 songs), Yves Duteil, Leo Ferré, Francoise Hardy (though a lot of her songs are written by other composers), Michel Berger, Serge Lama, Maxime Le Forestier and George Moustaki (he was born in Egypt as a son of a Jewish-Greek bookseller - so Greek was his mother tongue -, but he sings in French).
